Have you got dental braces to align your crooked teeth? Now, the important part is to keep them clean with a proper cleaning regime. Though braces or Invisalign clear aligners don’t cause any stains, insufficient oral hygiene while wearing the braces can stain the teeth and lead to tooth decay.
Hence, it is important to keep the braces clean to maintain the beauty of your teeth while straightening them. Read our blog to know about a few tips to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy while wearing braces.
Brush Your Teeth Well
Maintenance of oral hygiene with proper brushing and flossing is more important when you wear dental braces. While brushing the teeth, ensure that you clean the chewing surface of each tooth, inside and outside areas of the teeth, top of the teeth, gum line, and the dental braces as well for best results. If possible, brush your teeth after every meal. When it is impractical, or you don’t have a toothbrush handy, rinse your mouth with water after eating food to remove any food particles from getting stuck between the braces.
Don’t Skip Flossing
Flossing with dental braces is not easy, but ensure that you never skip it. Regular flossing is important to prevent the accumulation of plaque and food particles on the teeth and between braces, thus preventing tooth and gum decay. If you have dental braces, your dentist may prescribe a special floss to use while wearing braces.
Keep a Watch on What You Eat
If you wear braces, what you eat is very important to prevent food from getting stuck in the braces. Avoid intake of hard, crunchy, and sticky foods to prevent it from harming the attachments and brackets of the dental braces as well as your teeth. Instead, choose soft and easily chewable food options. Besides, avoid sugary drinks and food to prevent staining and decay of the brackets of the dental braces. If you eat sweets, drink water immediately to remove the sugar from your teeth.
If you are wearing Invisalign, remove them while having food or any drinks other than water. Also, never forget to clean your Invisalign trays using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste every day.
