Tips To Keep Smile Healthy This Winter Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time to celebrate with family and friends. With so much going on, you tend to forget about your dental health. However, this can be detrimental to your well-being. The holiday season is a time when people tend to indulge in binge eating and indulge in unhealthy habits. So, it becomes important to take extra care of your teeth to safeguard them from damage. Listed below are a few tips that will help you to keep your smile healthy this holiday season.

Limit the Consumption of Sugar

First, limit the amount of sugary foods you eat. Eating candy and caramel throughout the day can expose your teeth to sugar for extended periods of time, leading to tooth decay. Similarly, eating sticky candies like Starburst or Skittles can get caught between teeth, increasing your risk for tooth decay. Instead of snacking on sweet foods, try to eat something crunchy instead, such as an apple or a raw carrot.

Drink Enough Water

Secondly, make sure you drink plenty of water. Water helps rinse away food particles that get stuck between your teeth after eating. Try to drink a glass of water after every meal to help keep your teeth clean.

Practice Good Diet Habits

  • Choose foods high in calcium and phosphorus, such as dairy products and leafy greens. These minerals are important for your teeth’s enamel strength.
  • Avoid highly acidic foods and beverages that can erode the enamel on your teeth. This includes carbonated drinks, citrus fruits, and some fruit juices.
  • If you do have sugary or starchy food, do not brush your teeth immediately after eating. This can weaken the tooth enamel and make it more susceptible to damage. Wait at least 30 minutes to brush after eating sugary foods. If you must eat something sweet immediately, use sugarless gum to stimulate saliva production.
  • Try to eat healthy snacks and meals to keep your overall health in top shape. A balanced diet is important for a healthy smile all around.
